
Elizabeth Matheny Cranwell . . . is a public relations professional and an active member of her community.
Cranwell received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Government and Spanish from the University of Virginia in 1986 and a Master of Arts degree in Public Communication from The American University in 1996. Cranwell was the publicist for the 1990 Virginia Festival of American Film in Charlottesville. She worked for Congressman Rick Boucher and former Congresswoman Leslie Byrne, both of Virginia, as press secretary and communications director respectively. And, she has worked in several political campaigns and non-profit organizations in Virginia and Washington, D.C.
She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Science Museum of Western Virginia where she chairs the museum's marketing committee and is President of the East chapter of the MOMS Club of Roanoke. Cranwell is the former President of the Board of Directors of The Arlington Community Temporary Shelter, Inc; is a former member of the Roanoke Valley Greenway Commission; and is a co-founder and former board member of the New Vista Montessori School in Roanoke.
Cranwell is married to C. Richard Cranwell, an attorney and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, and is the stay-at-home mother of two boys, John Taylor "Jack" and Joseph, ages four and two.
