David Socky

David Socky . . . is, by profession, an electrical/software engineer, working for General Electric in Salem, VA. His primary hobby is caving - exploring, mapping, and photographing wild caves throughout the country. He has been caving since 1974, and also loves to hike, backpack, and camp, especially in the mountains of the western US.

David started playing with video production in the mid ‘80s, with most of his work revolving around caving. As the years progressed, he purchased better equipment, and learned how to make better videos. He is more or less self taught, and works in all fields of video – from field/camera work, including directing (when necessary) to editing and post production. He designs his own titles, graphics, DVD labels, and box cover artwork. He makes his own DVDs, packages them, and markets them through caving vendors (yes, there are businesses which cater to cavers). He doesn’t make enough money with video to live on, but does make enough to cover material expenses and pay for some of his toys. He has been selling tapes and DVDs now for about 12 years.

David's productions include documentaries, music videos, programs on specific caves, travel programs, and short films. He has also sold caving footage to a number of production companies who have made programs for TV viewing, including National Geographic and the Weather Channel.
