
Claire Collins . . . began serving as City Manager for the City of Covington, Virginia effective April 24, 2006. She previously served as County Administrator in Bath County, Virginia for the past 14 years. Prior to 1992, she served as Assistant to the County Manager and the first Public Affairs Officer for the County of Henrico, Virginia. Claire has also worked in the private sector and on important legislative issues that have had a positive impact in Virginia.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas and living throughout the United States and abroad, Collins has well-rounded experience growing up as the child of a career military family. She earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Studies from North Carolina Wesleyan University. Her undergraduate degree includes a year of study at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in International Politics and Law.
She currently serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership and Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation and on the Board of Directors of the Roanoke Valley Alleghany Regional Commission and Regional Board of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership. In the past, Collins has served in key leadership positions of statewide and regional professional organizations. Claire also is a member of the Covington-Hot Springs Rotary Club and several other community and civic advisory boards and organizations. She is a recipient of the VCU Alumni Star Award.
Mrs. Collins is married to Douglas Warren Durrett who together have two daughters, Jacqueline, a first year student at Bridgewater College and Alexandra, 7 in second grade. She is dedicated to her family and the community and region she serves.
